Chilean President José Antonio Kast will make his first foreign trip as head of state to meet Argentine President Javier Milei in Buenos Aires on Monday. The meeting aims to advance cooperation on security, mining, energy, and other bilateral issues. It marks their second encounter, the first since Kast took office.
Chilean President José Antonio Kast will arrive in Argentina on Sunday and meet Javier Milei on Monday, as confirmed by the Chilean government. The agenda covers security, mining, and energy, followed by a ministers' meeting, according to Chile's Minister of the General Secretariat of Government, Mara Sedini.
The invitation came from Argentine Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno to his Chilean counterpart Francisco Pérez Mackenna during a Saturday meeting. Pérez Mackenna stated: “With Argentina we have great opportunities to expand our cooperation for mutual benefits to citizens”.
This is the leaders' second meeting. In December, as president-elect, Kast met Milei at the Casa Rosada with Jorge Quiroz, Susana Jiménez of the CPC, and Rosario Navarro of the SOFOFA. They posed with a chainsaw sculpture, from which Kast later distanced himself: “It was a nice chainsaw, but we don't use chainsaws”.
Milei attended Kast's inauguration, but no bilateral meeting occurred due to scheduling issues. Monday's talks will deepen economic, energy, and judicial cooperation between the countries.
