L’Rain will release her new album Fata Morgana on August 14 through Mexican Summer. The project is preceded by the single “Soulless Cycle,” which features a video directed by Mackai Sharp.
Taja Cheek, who records as L’Rain, described the album as the final part of a quadrilogy that began with her 2017 self-titled debut and continued through Fatigue and I Killed Your Dog. She worked on the record with longtime collaborators Ben Chapoteau-Katz and Andrew Lappin. In a press release, Cheek reflected on themes tied to life in the present-day United States. “I’m thinking about the ways in which this societal malaise manifests within myself,” she said. “As we’ve slipped further into fascism and trad culture, I’m thinking about all the beliefs society has manufactured about itself and about me.” The album contains 13 tracks, including “Soulless Cycle,” “Rumors of Light,” and “Church of No One.”
