Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith launches label with new album

Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith will release her new album Ruin: It’s Not Just Music on October 2 through Someone Special, a label she co-founded this year with James Daniel.

The composer and synthesist described the beat-heavy record as a response to a need for confrontation in sound. In a press release, she said the album features heavier drums and breakbeats created “to make something confrontational, almost like sonic combat.” She added that the title track “Ruin” captures “that moment where everything breaks and something else asserts itself.” The music serves as “sound designed for endurance rather than comfort,” she noted. A video for the track stars pole-dancer Pedro Esteveaqui. The album follows Smith’s 2025 releases Gush and Thoughts on the Future. She is also scheduled to perform at London Barbican next week alongside the London Contemporary Orchestra to mark the 10th anniversary of her album Ears.
