Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith sortira son nouvel album Ruin: It’s Not Just Music le 2 octobre via Someone Special, un label qu'elle a cofondé cette année avec James Daniel.

La compositrice et synthétiste a décrit cet album riche en percussions comme une réponse à un besoin de confrontation sonore. Dans un communiqué de presse, elle a précisé que le disque met en avant des batteries plus lourdes et des breakbeats créés « pour produire quelque chose de conflictuel, presque comme un combat sonore ». Elle a ajouté que le morceau-titre, « Ruin », capture « ce moment où tout se brise et où autre chose s'affirme ». La musique est conçue comme « un son destiné à l'endurance plutôt qu'au confort », a-t-elle souligné. Une vidéo pour ce titre met en scène le danseur de pole dance Pedro Esteveaqui. Cet album succède aux sorties de Smith en 2025, Gush et Thoughts on the Future. Elle est également programmée pour se produire au Barbican de Londres la semaine prochaine aux côtés du London Contemporary Orchestra afin de marquer le 10e anniversaire de son album Ears.
