Dressage rider Lisa Müller, wife of soccer star Thomas Müller, is beginning an internship in the office of Bavarian Landtag President Ilse Aigner. The 35-year-old wants to experience how politics works firsthand. Aigner welcomes the initiative and hopes it inspires other women.

Dressage rider Lisa Müller, 35, usually works with riding crop and pitchfork. Now she is swapping them for paper and pen: She is doing an internship in the office of Ilse Aigner, 60, president of the Bavarian state parliament and CSU politician. "I want to see how politics works and learn the backgrounds," Müller told the "Bild" newspaper.

Müller has long been interested in politics and never misses a talk show or podcast. At Aigner's summer reception at Schloss Schleißheim, she mentioned it, and Aigner invited her to the Landtag. "I was very pleased when Lisa Müller asked if she could do an internship with me," Aigner said. The duration of the internship was not specified.

Müller will accompany Aigner to various appointments, including plenary sessions in the Landtag and discussions on women's promotion in companies. Highlights include attending a CSU faction meeting and a visit to Airbus Helicopters. Aigner hopes Müller's step will encourage young women to engage more politically: "We need more women who want to join in and shape things."

The intern, married to Thomas Müller, wants to listen and learn first. She is open to input from all parties, though her roots are with the CSU. "Every politician, regardless of party, wants only the best for the citizens. It's just the paths that differ," she emphasized. Her sport remains the priority; the internship falls during a tournament break, and Aigner adjusted to her schedule. In 2019, Müller won her first international competition with her horse "Stand By Me" at the Stuttgart German Masters and was added to the German perspective squad.
