Convicted on Tuesday by the Paris Court of Appeal, Marine Le Pen announced on Tuesday evening on TF1 that she is filing an appeal to the Court of Cassation and running in the 2027 presidential election.
The Court of Appeal upheld her conviction for misuse of public funds in the case of European parliamentary assistants of the Front National. It imposed one year of firm prison time adjustable to home detention with an electronic bracelet, a 100,000 euro fine and 45 months of ineligibility including 15 months firm.
Marine Le Pen stated on TF1: “I am innocent.” She explained that she refused the electronic bracelet and was relying on the Cassation appeal to campaign. The Court of Cassation must rule by early April 2027 at the latest.
An Ifop-Fiducial poll for Le Figaro and LCI shows Marine Le Pen regaining unprecedented momentum less than a year before the election. Another Odoxa-Backbone poll indicates that 51 percent of French people believe she is right to maintain her candidacy.
