David Stearns, who runs baseball operations for the New York Mets, indicated he is not inclined to trade shortstop Francisco Lindor ahead of the 2026 trade deadline. Stearns spoke on Friday without fully closing the door on the possibility.
Stearns said he would not rule out or in any specific player. He added that the team views its group of young players and potential Hall of Famers as its core.
The Mets sit in last place in the National League East and face the risk of losing 100 games. The team finished last season at 38-55 and missed the playoffs.
Lindor, 32, holds five years remaining on a 10-year, $341 million contract. He has appeared in 47 games this season after injuries including a broken left hamate and a severe left calf strain.
Lindor told Chelsea Janes of SNY that the trade rumors affect his family but that they are not discussed in the clubhouse.
