The government of Javier Milei advances an electoral reform to eliminate the PASO primaries, as allied governors negotiate support and the Senate delays debate until August.
Chief of Staff Diego Santilli is holding talks with provincial governors to gather the necessary votes. Catamarca Governor Raúl Jalil backed eliminating the primaries and called them "a very expensive poll" that "does not serve society".
Tucumán Governor Osvaldo Jaldo, however, rejected the move and stated his bloc is "against removing the PASO". Entre Ríos Governor Rogelio Frigerio said he is open to debating the reform, though he noted he has not yet seen the final text.
La Libertad Avanza holds 21 seats in the Senate and needs 37 votes to pass the elimination. According to official sources, the upper house would postpone debate until August to build broader consensus.
