Nairobi official urges parents to protect children during holidays

As Christmas celebrations begin, Nairobi County Assembly's Minority Leader Deputy, Waithera Chege, has urged parents and guardians to prioritize their children's safety. She highlighted increased risks during the holiday period, such as negative peer influences and drug use. This call came during an aid distribution event in Nairobi South ward.

Waithera Chege, who also serves as the Nairobi South ward representative, spoke at an aid distribution event in the Fuata Nyayo area, where a recent fire destroyed many residents' homes. She provided food, mattresses, blankets, and cash handouts to the affected families. In her address, Chege pointed out that the holiday season heightens dangers for children, including sexual assaults by criminals and the use of alcohol and narcotics.

"Children's protection is not the responsibility of parents alone. The entire community, local leaders, and security organs must collaborate to ensure a safe environment," Chege stated.

She called on security forces to boost patrols in the South B neighborhood during the festive period, allowing families to celebrate Christmas peacefully. Chege further advised parents to monitor their children's behavior, foster open communication, and work with neighbors to report any threats to child safety. She emphasized that robust child protection forms the foundation of a stable society, particularly amid the heightened activities of the Christmas season.
