National Lottery presents retro football album ahead of 2026 World Cup

Mexico's National Lottery launched a commemorative retro football album, paired with a special draw, to celebrate the country's World Cup history and build excitement for the 2026 tournament. The album features 20 collectible tickets honoring past editions like 1970 and 1986, as well as the 1971 Women's World Cup. The unveiling involved officials and sports figures in Mexico City.

In an event held in Mexico City, the National Lottery unveiled the Retro Lottery National and Football Album, alongside the ticket for the Special Zodiac Draw No. 1730. The ceremony was led by Olivia Salomón, director general of the National Lottery; Clara Brugada Molina, head of Government of Mexico City; and Gabriela Cuevas Barrón, Mexico's representative for the 2026 World Cup organization.

Salomón emphasized that the album recovers 'stories that have shaped the sports memory' and brings the past closer to the people. 'Each page is a door to the past and an invitation for new generations to feel that passion as their own', she stated. The collection features 20 designs honoring key moments from the 1970 and 1986 World Cups, as well as the 1971 Mexican Women's National Team, which filled the Azteca Stadium with over 110,000 people. 'It is a recognition as an act of historical justice', Salomón noted, ending with a ticket for Mexico 2026 under the motto 'One country, one passion'.

Brugada Molina stressed that remembering history is 'a deeply political act' and highlighted that Mexico City will be the inaugural host for four World Cups. She announced preparations including the construction of 500 football fields and an attempt to break the Guinness Record in the Zócalo. 'The ball returns home', she said, calling for a tournament free of discrimination.

Cuevas Barrón underscored the focus on a 'social World Cup' that transforms the country beyond the stadiums. 'We want football to be felt in the neighborhoods, in the colonies, in the towns of Mexico', she expressed.

The album is a gift with the purchase of a complete series of 20 tickets at 35 pesos each (total 700 pesos), available from December 22 at vendors and the MiLotería app. The draw takes place on January 11, 2026, at 8 p.m., with a top prize of 11 million pesos and a total pot of 43 million.

Attendees included 1971 team players like Alicia Vargas, Martha Coronado, and Irma Chávez, along with former national team members such as Luis Roberto Alves 'Zague' and Miguel España.
