Nubank has activated the feature allowing users to make payments to merchants by scanning QR codes directly from the mobile app. This option promotes quick and secure digital transactions, without the need for cash or physical cards. The tool leverages immediate and interoperable payment systems like Bre-B.
The Brazilian fintech Nubank announced the enabling of QR code payments for its Cuenta Nu users, allowing direct transactions to merchants from the mobile app. This new feature facilitates moving away from cash and cards, while integrating immediate payment systems like Bre-B, ensuring interoperability across platforms.
Key advantages highlighted by the company include the convenience and speed of the process, along with enhanced security. Users can verify transaction details before confirming, minimizing errors and risks. To use the feature, users simply open the Nu app, select the QR icon, scan the merchant's code, confirm the amount, and complete the operation with their personal PIN. Once done, the payment is confirmed on screen, and the user can download the digital receipt.
Currently, this functionality is available only for payments to merchants affiliated with the Redeban network. Nubank stated that it will soon extend the QR option for transfers between individuals. This initiative aligns with the growth of digital payments in the region, where contactless technologies are gaining ground to streamline everyday commerce.
