Governor Seyi Makinde has called for a United Nations investigation into the May 14 abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.
Gov. Seyi Makinde made the call during a statewide broadcast in Ibadan on Monday after receiving 44 rescued children and teachers. He said the circumstances were grave enough to warrant independent scrutiny by UN mechanisms to establish the truth and restore public confidence.
Makinde stated that the reunion with families marked the start of a collective responsibility to determine if there were institutional failures or collusion. He stressed the need for justice and reassurance that every Nigerian child can attend school without fear.
The governor noted the deaths of teachers Mr Joel Adesiyan, Deacon John Olaleye and Mr Michael Oyedokun, along with security personnel including Lt F. A. Isaac. He announced immediate measures to strengthen oversight of routes into the Old Oyo National Park.
