Chilean director Pablo Larraín is preparing to start production on his new Netflix feature Once later this year. The film will explore 11 interconnected stories set in the 18 hours after Chile's 1973 military coup.
The project marks another collaboration between Larraín and Netflix following their work on The Count and the series My Sad Dead. Production is slated to begin in the second half of 2026 under the banner of Larraín's company Fabula.
Once centers on events surrounding the September 11, 1973, coup that ended with the bombing of La Moneda Palace and the death of President Salvador Allende. The story unfolds through multiple perspectives during those critical hours.
Larraín has assembled a notable team that includes cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, production designer Guy Hendrix and visual effects supervisor Andrew Jackson. The cast is led by Alfredo Castro and also features Marcelo Alonso, Octavia Bernasconi and Roberto Farías among others.
Netflix vice president Francisco Ramos highlighted the project's quality and the company's ongoing commitment to Latin American storytelling. Larraín described the film as a significant challenge, calling it a war movie.
