Praggnanandhaa catches Firouzja after day 3 in Zagreb

GM Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu won all three of his rapid games on day three to catch GM Alireza Firouzja at the top of the standings in the 2026 Super Rapid & Blitz Croatia.

Praggnanandhaa defeated GMs Ivan Saric, Bogdan-Daniel Deac, and Anish Giri to reach 12 points. Firouzja drew two games and lost to GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov, who moved within one point of the leaders alongside GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave.

GMs Gukesh Dommaraju and Vincent Keymer sit tied for fifth place. The final rapid round featured Abdusattorov's win over Firouzja in a line he had prepared earlier in the event.

Day four begins with nine rounds of blitz on Saturday, July 4, at 9 a.m. ET. The tournament is the third event on the 2026 Grand Chess Tour and takes place at the Westin Hotel in Zagreb, Croatia.
