SEOUL, May 1 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung praised law enforcement authorities on Friday for their success in cracking down on phone scam cases.
In a post on his official X account, Lee said he was "relieved to see voice phishing damage falling sharply" in recent months. He linked to a news report showing damage fell 45 percent from a year ago in the first three months of the year, due to efforts hunting down overseas ringleaders.
"It is all thanks to the dedicated officials from the police, the National Intelligence Service and the foreign ministry. You did a great job. Thank you," he wrote. "We should all work harder to bring that number down to zero," Lee added, urging public support.
In March, Lee had ordered agencies to develop measures after designating phone scams one of seven major social ills.
