Former Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel made a cameo in the pilot episode of Chicago Fire after securing a donation to a fund supporting firefighters' families.
Emanuel appeared as himself in the 2012 pilot of the NBC drama. He walked toward a firefighter, nodded respectfully and shook hands.
He shared that playing the role came with a specific request. "It's easier being mayor than playing mayor," Emanuel said. "I told them I'd do it under one condition: the TV show is making an investment to the firefighter's widow and orphans fund."
The production agreed to the request. Emanuel later made additional appearances in the One Chicago franchise. These included a 2015 cameo in Chicago Med and a 2019 return to Chicago Fire in the season seven finale.
