Senate committee opens probe on Tacloban school shooting

The Senate committee on women, children, family relations and gender equality opened an investigation on July 1 into the June 22 school shooting in Tacloban City that killed three students.

Two minors aged 14 and 15 carried out the attack at San Jose National High School, leaving three students dead and 20 others injured. The hearing also examines the online grooming and radicalization of Filipino children toward violence.

A 14-year-old suspect had played the game Gorebox before the incident. The Germany-based developer of the game declined an invitation to attend the hearing.

Senator Risa Hontiveros, the panel chairperson, invited parents of the victims, relatives of the minors, government agencies, police, telecommunications providers, and the Game Developers Association of the Philippines to the session.
