Vietnamese sales company Skyline Media has acquired international rights to the family comedy drama Father of the Groom, directed by Nguyen Ngoc Lam and starring veteran actor Huu Chau. The film, produced by Galaxy Studio and released in Vietnam in November 2025, will be presented to international buyers at Filmart for the first time. It explores a father-son relationship strained by secrets amid a terminal illness diagnosis.
Skyline Media, one of Vietnam’s longest-established sales agents, has picked up international rights to Father of the Groom. The story centers on a widower in a remote southern Vietnamese village who learns of his terminal illness and seeks to honor a promise to his late wife by arranging his son’s marriage. The son, living in Saigon, resists, leading to revelations that further strain their bond. Veteran actor Huu Chau, known for his role in the 2025 hit Face Off 8: Embrace Of Light, leads the cast. Tran Kim Hai, from Face Off 7: One Wish, plays the son, joined by veteran actress Hong Van and rising star Syni Trang of The Soul Lantern. Director Nguyen Ngoc Lam has credits in U.S. films including Journey From The Fall and Da 5 Bloods. Galaxy Studio produced the film, which premiered theatrically in Vietnam last November. Hang Trinh, Skyline’s founder and general director, highlighted its appeal: “At its core, Father of the Groom tells a universal story about the emotional distance and love between a father and his son – a theme that resonates with audiences everywhere.” She added that it provides “a heartfelt glimpse into the distinctive beauty and cultural richness of Vietnam’s Mekong Delta,” combining family emotions with local identity for broad appeal. At Filmart, Skyline is also offering other titles like The Fatal Dealz, The Bride, and The Ancestral Home. Trinh is launching Triple Green CineCapital, a $3m venture with Singapore’s Leonard Lai, to fund Southeast Asian features.
