The Steelers agreed to terms with free-agent defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph-Day on March 13, 2026, signing him to a two-year contract worth $11 million, with $6 million guaranteed for the upcoming season. The deal was confirmed by ESPN's Adam Schefter and Joseph-Day's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and officialized on Monday, March 16.
Joseph-Day, who turns 31 next week and hails from Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the sixth round out of Rutgers in 2018. He has played for the Rams (where he won Super Bowl rings in 2018 as inactive and 2021, appearing in the game against the Cincinnati Bengals), Los Angeles Chargers, San Francisco 49ers, and most recently the Tennessee Titans over the past two seasons. In 105 career games with 90 starts, he has recorded 314 tackles (30 for loss) and 15.5 sacks. Last year with the Titans—who won just six games combined over two seasons—he started 10 of 17 games, notching 41 tackles (six for loss) and two sacks.
A versatile run defender with pass-rush upside, Joseph-Day has logged 1,694 snaps in the B-gap, 768 in the A-gap, and time at three-tech and defensive end per Pro Football Focus. In 2025, PFF graded him higher as a pass rusher. Pittsburgh, coming off a division title—their first since 2020—and amid run defense struggles, plans to deploy him at nose tackle behind Keeanu Benton or rotate with Cam Heyward and Derrick Harmon at defensive end. The defensive line also features Yahya Black. This is Pittsburgh's latest free-agency move, following signings of cornerback Jamel Dean, safety Jaquan Brisker, and safety Darnell Savage Jr. Joseph-Day will reunite with former Rams teammate Jalen Ramsey.
At his introductory press conference on the team's YouTube channel, Joseph-Day said, “I just wanna win games again. It’s been a little different two years for me... I wanna get back on that winning path.” He praised Heyward, a 15-year veteran entering his 16th season: “Cam, first-ballot [Hall of Famer]. When I watch film... I always watch Cam and he’s always whipping ass. I never see him lose.”
Off the field, Joseph-Day graduated early from Rutgers with a degree in journalism and media studies and pursued graduate studies in labor relations. He created the YouTube series Dine N’ Bash to support small restaurants during the pandemic and runs Bashing Hunger, a charity combating food insecurity. He and his wife Rachel—who owns a public relations firm—emphasize work-life balance.
