Supersalud orders special inspection of teachers' health model

Colombia's Superintendencia Nacional de Salud, led by Daniel Quintero, has launched a special inspection and oversight action on the teachers' health model managed by Fomag. The move follows a request from President Gustavo Petro to examine potential irregularities in its operations and resource use. The review will cover administration, contracting, and financial flows.

Superintendent Daniel Quintero Calle instructed the Directorate of Inspection and Surveillance for Health Assurance Entities to immediately begin a special action on the Teachers' Health Model. The thorough review aims to scrutinize operational functioning and resource use in the system for teachers, retirees, and beneficiaries.

The decision follows a request from the Presidency under Gustavo Petro Urrego. In a press release, the Superintendencia stated that "the decision is framed within the legal competencies of the Superintendencia Nacional de Salud and responds to a request raised from the Presidency of the Republic" to examine potential irregularities in management.

The inspection will cover general administration, contracting schemes, service provider networks, medication delivery, authorizations, PQRS processes, audits, and financial flows. It will assess Fiduprevisora S.A., health operators, medical providers, pharmaceutical managers, and other involved entities.

The agency will build a technical matrix to consolidate findings and risks, determining responsibilities and potential referrals to the Fiscalía, Procuraduría, and Contraloría. Quintero stressed the intervention's priority to safeguard health rights for teachers and their families.
