Former Bengals wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh has proposed Baker Mayfield as a potential quarterback option for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2027. His comments come amid uncertainty over the team's long-term plans at the position.
Houshmandzadeh made the remarks on his Up on Game podcast. He noted that the Steelers are unlikely to secure a top draft pick next year and said Mayfield would fit right in with the organization.
Pittsburgh signed Aaron Rodgers for the 2026 season, though Rodgers has indicated he intends to retire afterward. Prospects such as Will Howard and Drew Allar are viewed as long shots to start immediately.
Mayfield, 31, is entering the final year of his contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has stated that he and the team are not close on an extension and will not negotiate during the season. Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht has expressed a desire to retain the two-time Pro Bowl quarterback.
