Talanx acquires Mexican insurer Afirme Seguros

Insurance group Talanx has acquired Mexican insurer Afirme Seguros, significantly expanding its operations in the country. At the same time, the company gains 20 years of exclusive access to the branch network of the Afirme banking group.

Talanx, based in Hanover, acquired Afirme Seguros, which belongs to the Afirme Grupo Financiero banking group. The purchase price was not disclosed but is estimated by financial circles at around 200 million euros. The deal increases the premium volume of Talanx subsidiary HDI Seguros Mexico by more than half.

HDI Seguros Mexico moves up to sixth place in the property insurance business and fifth place in motor insurance in Mexico through the acquisition. The subsidiary has been active in the country since 2009 and generated a premium volume of 704 million euros in 2025 with around 1800 employees.

Afirme Seguros adds 960 further employees and 372 million euros in premiums. Talanx board member Wilm Langenbach described the partnership as an important milestone on the path to becoming one of the top five players in the Mexican property and casualty insurance market.
