Tame Impala has released a cover of Smashing Pumpkins' 1993 track 'Hummer'. The song opens a new tribute album titled 'Sending Hearts To All My Dearies'.
The cover appears as the first track on the 15-song collection, which features reinterpretations by artists including Yonaka, Palaye Royale, Alice Glass and Barns Courtney. Tame Impala leader Kevin Parker said the original track evokes his high school years.
The album is scheduled for digital release on August 14 through Sumerian Records, with a deluxe vinyl edition set for October 16. Smashing Pumpkins endorsed the project on social media and encouraged fans to stream the new version of 'Hummer'.
The tribute is described by organizers as a conversation between generations of musicians. It celebrates the enduring influence of the Smashing Pumpkins catalog more than three decades after the release of 'Siamese Dream'.
