Thomas Detry is focusing on a strong finish at the LIV Golf event in Valderrama, Spain, to secure a spot in the 2026 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills. The Belgian has exhausted three qualification paths and needs to climb into the top 60 in the world rankings by June 15.
Detry, the first Belgian to win on the PGA Tour, sits two shots behind Tyrrell Hatton after two rounds at Valderrama. A win or strong result could boost his ranking from 66th with 88.52 points. Earlier attempts fell short. Detry missed the cut at the PGA Championship and lost a playoff at final qualifying in Walton Heath. He had also lost the top LIV player exemption to Lucas Herbert. Detry said he has given up worrying about qualification and is now focused on the current event. A runner-up finish might provide enough points to reach around 58th or 59th before the Canadian Open. If I end up qualifying, Detry said, it's going to be a very well-deserved qualified spot.
