The team made the announcement official later that day, confirming the top prospect's rapid rise to the majors without a Triple-A stint, jumping straight from Double-A last summer. McGonigle, drafted 37th overall in 2023 from Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast High School in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, impressed in spring training with a .250/.423/.500 slash line, two homers, 11 walks and eight strikeouts over 52 plate appearances, alongside strong defensive plays. In his minor league career across 183 games, he hit .308 with 25 homers, 40 steals and a .919 OPS, capping 2025 as MVP of the Arizona Fall League with a 1.210 OPS and five homers in 19 games. Hinch praised his composure: “He continued to demonstrate his ability to handle the moment... His defense was really impressive... He never looked uncomfortable throughout the spring.” He added that McGonigle would focus on the left side of the infield: “He’ll play on the left side of the infield...
