A woman has died after falling from a high cliff in a nature area in Salem. Police classify the incident as an accident with no suspicion of crime. A relative began life-saving efforts before rescue services evacuated her by boat and helicopter.

On Monday around 1 p.m., a woman fell from a cliff near Högantorps gård in Salem municipality and landed in a body of water. Rescue services state she fell 28 meters in the hard-to-reach area. A relative accompanying her started life-saving measures and called emergency services.

The rescue operation was extensive, taking nearly one and a half hours from the alert until the helicopter lifted off with the woman. She was first taken to a boat and then winched up to the helicopter, which flew her to hospital. She was later pronounced dead there.

Police spokesperson Mats Eriksson states it is an accident. “The woman was out walking and for an unknown reason she stepped wrong or something like that,” he says. There is no suspicion of crime or suicide, and relatives have been notified. Duty officer Anders Sessler at the rescue service confirms it was an accident.
