Atlas Arcade has published an interactive Mario Kart experience on YouTube that allows limited player input through the platform's 360-degree video tools.
The video places viewers on Rainbow Road for under a minute of left-to-right movement. Users select different racers by switching subtitle tracks, which also support multiple languages.
The project relies on YouTube's spherical video format combined with keyboard controls and custom subtitles. Atlas Arcade wrote the core code in HTML and JavaScript, while rendering additional assets and animations in Python with the Manim library.
The same team previously created similar playable adaptations of Flappy Bird and Five Nights at Freddy's. A separate channel called Animated Subtitles supplied the subtitle-based character selection system.
Atlas Arcade maintains 37,500 subscribers, with many of its videos reaching hundreds of thousands of views. The Mario Kart experiment serves as a demonstration of possible future interactive content on the platform.
