16-year-old boy from Helsingborg found dead in Helsingør

A 16-year-old boy from Helsingborg, Sweden, missing in Helsingør, Denmark, since New Year's Eve, was found dead in the harbor on Thursday. Danish police suspect no crime and believe he accidentally fell into the water. Surveillance footage shows him falling in just after midnight.

The 16-year-old boy from Helsingborg was in Helsingør with friends to celebrate New Year's Eve into January 1. The alert that he was missing came in at 11:07 on New Year's Eve. A jacket belonging to him was found in the water at Kulturvarvet in Helsingør on Wednesday morning, starting a large-scale search operation.

The search began on Wednesday but was paused during New Year's Eve evening. It resumed on Thursday morning with divers, rescue services, police, and a search dog. At 10:45, ambulances and a medical vehicle arrived at the harbor area, followed by more personnel. A total of about 30 people participated in the effort. Military divers joined around 15:30 to assist with expertise on currents, as the police lack their own diving resources.

Shortly after 4 p.m., divers found a body in the harbor basin, later identified as the boy. His relatives were notified. According to surveillance footage from the harbor, the boy fell into the water at 00:45 on Wednesday night. Nordsjælland police, represented by David Buch, stated: "We have no suspicion that anything criminal has happened. We suspect he may have fallen into the water."

The boy was described as 180 cm tall with a slim build, wearing a black Canada Goose down jacket, dark jeans, and black sneakers. Danish police are seeking witnesses who may have seen him. Swedish police are not involved in the search but handle contact with relatives. The operation was entirely led by Danish police.
