Arizona police have recommended child abuse charges against the parents of 18-month-old Vincent Fiordilino after the boy drowned in a backyard pool during a Super Bowl party in February but was later found alive in a hospital morgue.
The Maricopa County Attorney's Office is reviewing whether to file the felony charges. A police report states that the boy's parents, from Gilbert, admitted to smoking marijuana and not watching him closely at the party.
First responders took Vincent to a local hospital, where a doctor declared him dead. He was moved to the morgue around 7:23 p.m. and found alive and breathing by a medical examiner's team at 11:52 p.m.
Police said the doctor will not face criminal charges. Vincent was airlifted to Phoenix Children's Hospital, where his organs began shutting down before he recovered with no brain damage.
A GoFundMe campaign describes him as a "miracle baby" who will need ongoing therapy and medical monitoring.
