Avalon Fast has brought her vision of witchcraft and friendship to the screen with the feature Camp, now playing in theaters via Dark Sky Films. The film follows a group of counselors at a remote camp who explore their occult side.
Fast describes the story as a bunch of girls in the woods doing weird stuff. The plot centers on Emily, played by Zola Grimmer, who joins four other counselors dealing with trauma.
The director drew from her own experiences and the sacred qualities of the Alberta, Canada, forest where the shoot took place. She collaborated closely with cinematographer Eily Sprungman, referencing Renaissance art and an Ophelia image for key visuals.
Camp marks Fast's second feature after the 2022 film Honeycomb. It won the Next Wave award at Fantastic Fest last year. The cast formed strong real-life bonds during production, which Fast says helped shape the on-screen dynamic.
Fast plans a project about a boy next, followed by one more girl-focused horror cult story.
