Conor McGregor’s return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship ended after just 69 seconds when he suffered a knee injury during the main event of UFC 329 in Las Vegas. Ultimate Fighting Championship CEO Dana White said he believes the injury is to the ACL. Fellow fighter Max Holloway expressed hope that McGregor recovers fully.
McGregor had been out of action for five years before the bout. He later described the sudden nature of the injury in a statement.
“My head gasket is gone. Destroyed. I had no injury / injuries going into the fight. I was throwing kicks, planted and jumping, all throughout camp as well as backstage before the fight. This came out of nowhere. I am beyond dark here. I can only describe it as hell,” McGregor said.
White confirmed the suspected ACL tear based on initial assessments. Holloway reacted to the incident by wishing McGregor well and turning attention to his own next matchup against Islam Makhachev.
