The court extended until Tuesday the detention of Fabián Barrientos, former Health Seremi from Magallanes, who is under investigation for an alleged sexual offense. Prosecutors requested the measure to complete pending expert reports.
The Guarantee Court of Magallanes extended the detention of Fabián Barrientos Andrade until Tuesday, July 28. Prosecutor Johanna Irribarra explained that further inquiries and expert reports are still needed to establish the sequence of events.
According to the details presented, the investigation concerns an alleged sexual assault that occurred while the complainant was asleep after consuming alcohol and clonazepam. A discussion then led to a fight, prompting the arrival of Carabineros officers.
The defense, represented by Juan Carlos Rebolledo, denied that any crime took place. The lawyer stated that the encounter was consensual and that the issue arose over money.
The Health Ministry requested Barrientos’s resignation on Saturday after learning of the ongoing judicial investigation. The formalization of charges was scheduled for Tuesday.
