Doctors in Tambaram organised an awareness rally on Saturday to promote the HPV vaccine for girls under 14.
The Kanchipuram Obstetric and Gynaecological Society, supported by the Indian Medical Association Tambaram Branch, held the event to highlight the vaccine's role in preventing cervical cancer.
Former international athlete Gayathri Govindaraj flagged off the rally. KOGS president Umaiyal Murugesan said the vaccine offers effective prevention, noting that cervical cancer is among the most common cancers affecting women in India.
She added: “Just as polio was eradicated through vaccination, cervical cancer can also be significantly prevented with timely HPV vaccination.” More than 400 doctors, healthcare workers and members of the public attended.
