Grime II releases new gameplay overview trailer

Indie developer Clover Bite and publisher Kwalee have unveiled a new trailer for Grime II, offering a developer-guided tour of its mechanics and challenges. The sequel to the 2021 metroidvania builds on absorbing enemies and summoning molds in a mysterious world. A free demo is available on Steam, though no release date has been announced.

Clover Bite, the indie developer behind the original Grime, and publisher Kwalee have shared a fresh gameplay overview trailer for Grime II. Released recently, the video provides an in-depth look at the sequel's core features, guided by the developers themselves. It emphasizes improvements over the 2021 action-adventure metroidvania, including enhanced mechanics, new challenges, and glimpses into the unfolding story.

In Grime II, players take on the role of a Formless, an art mimic capable of absorbing creatures and summoning molds in their shapes. This allows for customizable playstyles through various abilities, weapons, and mold summons. The game is set in a new mysterious land within the Grime universe, filled with danger, wonder, diverse cultures, and deep characters. Players will explore locations crafted from unusual materials, such as painted nails and giant vases, each hosting unique civilizations.

Combat integrates environmental elements, where surroundings can be used to damage enemies—or be turned against the player. Key mechanics include absorbing defeated enemies to create molds for special attacks like throwing foes, firing projectiles, stunning, or summoning allies. The parry and grasp system lets players extend hand-tendrils to deflect attacks or pull in enemies for absorption, aiding both combat and exploration of secret paths.

While no release window has been set, interested players can try a free demo on Steam to experience these features firsthand.
