HV71 has confirmed the signing of center Hampus Eriksson from Nybro Vikings in a deal worth a six-figure sum. The transfer, approved by Nybro's board for economic reasons, sees Eriksson join HV71 after contributing 10 points in 20 games this season. Nybro's head coach Hampus Sylvegård acknowledged the loss but highlighted internal options to fill the role.
The transfer of Hampus Eriksson to HV71 was officially announced after weeks of negotiations, with Nybro Vikings accepting the offer to bolster their finances. Eriksson, a powerful and versatile center, made 10 points in 20 appearances for Nybro this fall, establishing himself as a key forward. He previously shone in Vimmerby with 29 points in 46 games and has experience in the SHL with Brynäs and in Austria.
HV71's assistant sports director Fredrik Stillman praised the acquisition, stating, "I Hampus får vi en center som är väldigt användbar över hela banan. Head coach Hampus Sylvegård described it as a "tungt tapp" but pointed to alternatives like Miikka Pitkänen, who has been sidelined by injury, Joel Kant, and Theo Jacobsson, all capable of playing center. "Miikka har varit skadad... Han spelade center innan han blev skadad," Sylvegård noted.
Nybro's board chair Magnus Krantz emphasized the economic benefits: "Denna typ av intäkter är viktiga för att vi långsiktigt ska kunna bygga en hållbar och konkurrenskraftig organisation." Sport chief Mikael Aaro, who attempted to extend Eriksson's contract, respected the decision for the club's good.
