Kast labels criminal complaint over alleged child trafficking from Haiti as gravísima

Chile's National Migration Service filed a criminal complaint with the Centro Norte Prosecutor's Office over alleged illicit trafficking of Haitian minors on 2025 charter flights. President José Antonio Kast called the matter gravísima and pledged government cooperation with prosecutors.

Chile's National Migration Service filed a criminal complaint Monday with the Fiscalía Metropolitana Centro Norte for the repeated crime of illicit migrant trafficking under Article 411 bis of the Penal Code. The filing stemmed from joint audits by the Comptroller General of the Republic and the Investigative Police.

According to the SERMIG statement, at least 12 adults, both foreign and Chilean, entered the country repeatedly between January and October 2025 posing as responsible adults for groups of 2 to 18 Haitian children and adolescents. These individuals lacked blood relations or the legal authorizations required by Article 28 of Law N° 21.325.

President José Antonio Kast responded on his X account that the complaint over the uncontrolled mass entry of Haitian children in 2025 is gravísima. He announced the government will hand over the records to prosecutors and cooperate to ensure justice is served and corresponding responsibilities are demanded.
