The Kenya Human Rights Commission has issued a statement accusing the presidents of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda of overseeing enforced disappearances and the suppression of dissent.
The Kenya Human Rights Commission released a statement on June 29 linking Presidents William Ruto, Samia Suluhu Hassan and Yoweri Museveni to a pattern of abductions, torture and the silencing of critics.
The statement called on the leaders to end enforced disappearances, produce all missing persons and prosecute those responsible. It also demanded the resignation of Kenya’s Inspector-General of Police Douglas Kanja and his deputy.
Specific cases mentioned include the arrest of seven Kenyan defenders on June 25 and the reported abduction of activist David Nikindikwa in Tanzania on the same day. The commission further urged authorities to produce three missing activists and provide medical care to those recovered.
