Defenseman Mattias Ekholm has agreed to represent Sweden at the upcoming world championship in Switzerland. The 35-year-old Edmonton player missed the Olympics but will make his first world championship appearance since 2018.
Tre Kronor head coach Sam Hallam confirmed the addition after direct contact with Ekholm following the NHL season. Hallam said Ekholm played all 82 regular-season games and felt refreshed when asked to join the squad. The team opens its tournament against Canada on Friday evening in Fribourg.
