Wyndham Clark holds a four-stroke lead after 36 holes at the 2026 U.S. Open. The 32-year-old opened with a 64 and followed with a 69 at Shinnecock Hills.
Clark rebuilt his swing with coach Patrick Coyner starting in September 2025. The work addressed issues with his lead wrist that had caused a long backswing and open clubface.
Coyner said the changes shortened Clark’s arm swing and added width for better control. The pair also focused on alignment and tee work ahead of the event.
Clark credited the progress for building confidence this year. He sits third in strokes gained approach and 22nd off the tee through two rounds.
Preparation included studying wind patterns and identifying safe miss areas during practice rounds with his caddie.
