AI har løst 80 år gammelt matematikproblem

En AI-model fra OpenAI har løst et matematikproblem, som blev formuleret af Paul Erdős i 1946. Svante Linusson, professor ved KTH, udtrykte overraskelse over resultatet.

Problemet vedrører, hvor mange linjer af samme længde der kan tegnes mellem punkter på et stykke papir. Erdős' teori om, at det største antal linjer opnås i et gitter, viste sig at være forkert.

AI-modellen brugte værktøjer fra et andet område inden for matematikken og skrev sin egen forskningsartikel om løsningen. Linusson vurderer, at artiklen kunne have været publiceret i førende tidsskrifter, hvis den var skrevet af et menneske.
