Alex Eala of the Philippines opens her Wimbledon campaign against Mexico's Renata Zarazua. The matchup comes two years after Zarazua defeated Eala 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Cary Tennis Classic.
Eala now holds the No. 30 WTA ranking and is seeded for the first time at a Grand Slam event. Zarazua is ranked No. 76. A victory would send Eala into the second round against either Serena Williams or Maya Joint.
Eala arrives at Wimbledon after winning nine of her last 12 grass-court matches. She captured her second WTA 125 title at the Birmingham Open and reached the semifinals of the Berlin Open.
