Analyst warns US Venezuelan oil risks Vaca Muerta investments

Political analyst Gustavo Córdoba warned that the US intervention in Venezuela, gaining abundant oil, endangers investments in Vaca Muerta, a key Argentine formation. Córdoba stated this diminishes Argentina's priority for Washington and shifts the international order.

Political analyst Gustavo Córdoba voiced concerns over the impacts of the recent US government expropriation of Venezuelan oil under President Donald Trump. In statements to Radio Continental, Córdoba emphasized that this action will have "multiple impacts, direct and indirect," on Argentina.

One direct effect, according to the expert, is the risk to investments in Vaca Muerta. "The fact that the US now has abundant oil from Venezuela puts investments in Vaca Muerta at risk," Córdoba stated. He explained that opportunities in this Neuquén area relied heavily on the United States as a main buyer, but now Venezuelan oil is "very easy to sell in the United States, especially now with this expropriation."

Furthermore, Córdoba pointed to a political impact: Argentina is no longer a priority for Washington or Trump. "Evidently, there is a new international order. There is a new way for the United States to conduct itself in the world," the consultant concluded. These remarks come amid the US intervention in Venezuela, which alters regional and global energy dynamics.

The Vaca Muerta formation has attracted investments due to its shale oil potential, but the abundance of Venezuelan supplies could lessen its appeal to foreign investors, particularly from the US.
