Thousands of Argentine fans staged a banderazo in Atlanta ahead of their round-of-16 clash against Egypt at the 2026 World Cup.
The banderazo began at 17:00 at the Active Oval. Fans waved large flags and beat drums while singing national-team anthems. Some images showed a burning coffin bearing Kylian Mbappé’s face.
The match is scheduled for Tuesday 7 July at 13:00 Argentina time in Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Argentina arrives after beating Cabo Verde 3-2 in extra time. Egypt reached the round of 16 for the first time in its history.
Lionel Scaloni confirmed that Leandro Paredes will start. The coach noted the team had little rest and described Egypt as a tough opponent.
