A 10-year-old boy named Sanskar Verma drowned in a residential swimming pool in Wazirabad on Sunday morning. Police said the pool had no lifeguards or required safety measures. A case of death due to negligence has been filed against the owner.
Sanskar, a Class 6 student from Sushant Vihar in Burari, was with a group of about 18 children at the pool. He entered the deep end and remained unnoticed until older boys found him unconscious at the bottom. He was pulled out and taken to a hospital but was declared dead.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia confirmed that legal action has started against the pool owner. Officers from Wazirabad police station found the pool was operating without mandatory safety arrangements. A case of death due to negligence has been registered.
Sanskar’s father Neeraj said he paid Rs 250 for his sons to use the pool after learning about the outing. He alleged that several such illegal pools operate in the area without proper guards. Police are now reviewing CCTV footage from nearby locations as the investigation continues.
