Chicago Fire showrunner Andrea Newman to exit after season 14

NBC's Chicago Fire will have a new showrunner after its current season 14. Andrea Newman, who has led the series since season 1, is stepping down, with Victor Teran promoted to take her place. The change was first reported by Variety.

Andrea Newman joined Chicago Fire in 2012 as a writer and co-executive producer for its debut season. A veteran of shows like 24 and Private Practice, she rose to executive producer and became co-showrunner in 2021, then sole showrunner in 2023. She has writing credits on 67 episodes of the procedural drama. NBC renewed Chicago Fire in March for what will now be season 15 under Teran's leadership. Newman expressed gratitude in a statement: “Working at 'Chicago Fire,' with the absolute best cast and crew in the business, has been the highlight of my career.” She praised creator Dick Wolf and his team, including Peter Jankowski, Rebecca McGill, and Anastasia Puglisi, along with Derek Haas and network executives. Executive producer Peter Jankowski said: “We're sad to say goodbye to Andrea. She's been at the center of the heart and soul of 'Chicago Fire' since the beginning and the show thrived under her watch.” He noted her role in developing new talent and confidence in Teran. Season 14 airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC, sandwiched between Chicago Med and Chicago P.D. in the #OneChicago block. The finale is set for May 13.
