Germán Bahamón, manager of Colombia's National Coffee Growers Federation, warned about the impact of a strong currency on the country's exporters.
Bahamón described revaluation as a silent tax that reduces coffee producers' income without any change in their practices.
Colombia exports nearly 90 percent of the coffee it produces and more than 550,000 families depend on the activity, the leader said.
The manager noted that economies need strong producers and called for tools such as better infrastructure, efficient logistics and credit access to maintain competitiveness.
The new government has the opportunity to build an export competitiveness agenda together with the productive sector, Bahamón added.
