Court orders Nunes to authorize Uber mototáxi operations in São Paulo

The São Paulo Court of Justice has ordered the city government to authorize Uber to operate motorcycle transport services in the capital.

Judge Patrícia Persicano Pires of the 16th Public Treasury Court issued the ruling on Tuesday (21). The administration of Ricardo Nunes (MDB) has 48 hours to comply with the order, under penalty of a daily fine of R$ 5,000.

The magistrate rejected the city government's arguments regarding the missing signature on personal accident insurance documentation. She described the lack of authorization as disregard for previous court orders.

The Municipal Road Use Committee denied the accreditation request last week. App platforms argue that authorization is based on federal regulations, while the Nunes administration cites risks to passenger safety.
