Lawyers for contralmirante Fernando Farías Laguna requested a third postponement of his imputation hearing, citing legibility issues with evidence provided by prosecutors. The hearing was scheduled for November 5 at 11:30 a.m. before federal judge Nancy Selene Hidalgo Pérez. The request stems from parts of the investigation file that are illegible due to covered data.
The legal representatives of contralmirante Fernando Farías Laguna, implicated in a fuel smuggling case known as huachicol fiscal, sent an official request to control judge Nancy Selene Hidalgo Pérez to postpone the imputation hearing scheduled for November 5. They argue that, although they have received all volumes of the investigation file FED/FEMDO/FEIORPIFAMFCDMX/0000568/2024, there are illegible sections because prosecutors covered data, hindering an adequate defense.
Previously, the defense had asked the Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) to review the classified information, deeming the reservation excessive and preventing access to key elements. The court is expected to respond to this request this afternoon or at the latest tomorrow morning.
This would be the third postponement, following delays in delivering the file that prevented hearings on October 1 and 20. Farías Laguna faces charges for operations with illicit proceeds (ORPI), equivalent tax fraud, and organized crime for committing hydrocarbon-related offenses.
According to the arrest warrant, Farías was part of a presumed criminal organization that controlled Mexican maritime customs to allow illegal entry of hydrocarbons hidden in tank ships, disguised as oils and additives. His position in the Navy enabled him to propose key personnel in the National Customs Agency, facilitating the scheme in multiple ports. Testimonies, including that of a cooperating witness nicknamed 'Santo', describe a network in customs that received payments to simulate inspections and evade controls.
