Dispatch devs eye restoring cut sex scenes amid fan enthusiasm

Developers of the superhero adventure game Dispatch have revealed they cut some sex scenes during production but may bring them back due to strong fan interest in the game's romances. The title, created by former Telltale staff at Ad Hoc Studios, has sold over a million copies since its October launch on PlayStation 5 and PC. Writer Pierre Shorette shared these insights in a recent Inverse interview.

Game Overview

Dispatch is a narrative-driven superhero workplace comedy developed by Ad Hoc Studios, a team including former Telltale Games employees. Released in October 2025, the game consists of eight episodes available on PlayStation 5 and PC. It has achieved significant success, selling over a million copies and building a dedicated fanbase invested in its story and character relationships.

Fan Reaction and Developer Insights

In an interview with Inverse, writer Pierre Shorette discussed the unexpected intensity of fan engagement with the game's romance elements. "I don’t know that I anticipated it to be as ravenous as it’s been," Shorette said. "It’s probably why we didn’t plan for more romance options, because we didn’t know it was going to be such a meaningful part of the experience for folks."

Shorette noted that romance was not the primary focus, as he tends toward romantic comedy in writing but aimed to balance it with other aspects. However, the positive response has prompted reflection on production choices. "We definitely cut some sex scenes. Which, in retrospect, we shouldn’t have," he admitted. "Maybe folks will get to see those one day."

Development Challenges

As an indie studio, Ad Hoc faced budget constraints that limited branching narratives and additional content. Shorette explained, "There isn’t anyone on the development team that wouldn’t have a laundry list of stuff they wish they could polish more or gotten into the game... But because it looks good, it costs a lot per second to make this video game, and sometimes it costs things that often, with these games, is branching too."

Fans are already calling for a sequel, and the team is pleased with the reception. No firm plans for restored content have been announced, but the feedback highlights romances as a key draw.
