KJSEA 2025: Ministry rejects 66,000 Grade 10 transfer requests over school capacity

Following the initial Grade 10 placements released on December 19, the Ministry of Education has processed 183,000 transfer requests from KJSEA 2025 candidates, approving 116,000 while rejecting 66,000 due to limited capacity at top schools. Affected students can submit fresh appeals in early January.

Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok stated that most rejections stem from over-demand for fewer than 20 top-tier institutions lacking infrastructure for large intakes. "Over 50,000 students are interested in just 20 schools, which is impossible," he said on December 27.

This update builds on the automated placements, which considered students' choices, KJSEA performance (announced December 11), psychometric tests, equity, and capacity for 1,130,459 candidates. Approved transfers can access admission letters from December 28 via the portal.

Learners with rejected requests should submit appeals in the first week of January, with a potential second revision window from January 6-9 for under-enrolled schools. All students must report to assigned senior secondary schools by January 12, 2026.
